Description

This guide provides instruction on replacing the hobbed bolt. The hobbed bolt is a grooved bolt inside the extruder assembly. It's purpose is to grip the filament and feed it into the printer. Over time, the bolt can wear down, which can cause extrusion issues. 



The photo below shows extrusion issues caused by a worn hobbed bolt.



Process:


1.) Remove the back panel by unscrewing the 6 corner screws, as is shown in the photo below.

2.)  Remove the C-clip from the back of the extruder assembly.

3). Remove the extruder assembly by unscrewing the 3 screws shown in the photo below.

4.)  Pull the hobbed bolt out of the extruder assembly.

5.) Remove the washers and the bearing from the old hobbed bolt and add them to the new hobbed bolt.

6). Place the hobbed bolt with it's bearing and washers into the extruder assembly plate.

7.) Reinstall the extruder assembly into the back of the printer, using the same 3 screws.

8). Replace the C-clip




Replace the back panel and you're done!
