Printer Configuration Type - Bowden Extruder

  • The extruder assembly (located on the back of the printer) uses stepper motors to drive filament through a bowden tube and uses pressure to extrude filament through the hot end. This allows weight of stepper motors to remain off of the hot end and allow fast, more accurate movement. 



1) Cut the filament at a 45 degree angle for easy feeding. Try cutting with the curvature of the filament wire or into a spear. Straightening out the filament will be required for some cases.

2) Squeeze the latch on the extruder assembly, remove the pin and set it aside, you will need it to run the printer.

  • Push the latch on your printer fully open so the hobbed bolt (bolt that drives the filament) does not catch while loading filament.

2) Load the lament onto the spool minder. Make sure the filament is unwinding from the bottom of the spool so the natural curvature of the filament leads it up towards the extruder assembly.

3) Insert the filament into the hole at the bottom of the extruder assembly and halfway through the tube. You cannot feed filament into the hot end until your hot end is up to temperature. In the case of ABS, this would be 240.
